Jay Smith, executive director of the Alliance for Toll-Free Interstates (ATFI), offered the following statement after a commonwealth court judge issued a preliminary injunction against a plan to toll nine Pennsylvania bridges: 

“The Wolf Administration’s plan for imposing new tolls on existing bridges has always been a terrible deal for commuters, businesses and local communities. The court’s decision today suggests the process by which state officials implemented the plan was just as bad.

This week, several legislators joined the bipartisan group supporting an infrastructure framework, and media reports contained leaked draft documents speculated to be the funding principles. The document called for incentives to privatize toll roads, asset recycling and the allowance of toll revenues to be used for other non-toll transportation systems as a means of funding infrastructure.

The Alliance for Toll-Free Interstates (ATFI) is a growing alliance of individuals, businesses and organizations advocating for long-term, sustainable, efficient, equitable, and sensible highway infrastructure funding solutions. We believe certain Wyoming legislators and the Department of Transportation’s (WYDOT) pursuit to toll Interstate 80 (I-80) is misguided. We urge the House to reject all efforts to expand tolling, including across I-80.
